when trying to sync video to my iphone (3G, iOS 4.1) it protests that the format is not supported and that it couldnt find the appropriate converter. the format IS supported because it was synced by itunes to my device and played fine, now banshee's wiped them and wont sync them back GR.
EDIT: i'd like to add that this issue doesnt just affect the iphone. i recently got an android phone and it has the same issue. |

I have the same problem as the original poster. The video don't need to be converted because they are already in the right format and aspect ratio.
The same files synchronize well with gtkpod and Rhythmbox. Why can't Banshee just copy them?

It should; it's a bug. It's the same problem as
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=633552 just with a different mimetype. On Wed, Oct 27, 2010 at 1:02 AM, Fabien <[hidden email]> wrote: > > I have the same problem as the original poster. I'm having a similar problem. I have AAC files (with the "m4a" extension) that Banshee syncs to my iPod without issue. Banshee refuses to sync these same files with my iPhone, complaining that the file type isn't supported by the device.
"The m4a format is not supported by the device, and no converter was found to convert it." Given that the files sync to the iPod fine, I'm thinking there has to be an easy fix for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :) |

Oh yeah that bug. I need to fix that. I'll try and fix that this weekend. I have easy access to an iPhone now, so I should be able to test.

If you fix that bug, please don't forget MP4 and M4V files.
If I'm not mistaken, Banshee only tests the extension and assumes it can't copy them to the device. While it is true iPhone/iPod Touch might not be able to read them depending on their encoding, it's better to copy them anyway. Well at least the user can synchronize their video and watch them on their iPhone/iPod Touch. Of course the improperly encoded ones won't work. Actually Banshee refuses every mp4 or m4v. Even if they are properly encoded. Of course the best solution would be to detect the encoding and check whether it is compatible with the deceive (and not just the mime type like now) and transcode them when possible and refuse them if not. But I am not sure Banshee could keep up with all the new portable music players and smart phones. And there is nothing more frustrating that not being able to synchronize stuff to you phone/music player when you know it can read it...
