Banshee not playing .mov files, probably bug

adam66

When I click on the *.mov files, I get nothing but a skip to the next file. I ran it from the command line and got this error:

[1 Debug 18:07:55.264] OnEventChanged called with StartOfStream.  Replacing current_track with pending_track: "angel_lg"
[1 Debug 18:07:55.305] (libbanshee:player) bp_stop: setting state to GST_STATE_NULL
[1 Debug 18:07:55.305] Player state change: Loading -> Idle
[1 Error 18:07:55.307] GStreamer stream error: Failed

(Banshee:11582): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_get: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
[1 Debug 18:07:55.558] Player state change: Idle -> Loading
[1 Debug 18:07:55.562] (libbanshee:player) Audiosink has volume: YES
[1 Debug 18:07:55.568] (libbanshee:player) scaled volume: 1.00 (ReplayGain) * 1.00 (User) = 1.00
[1 Debug 18:07:55.571] (libbanshee:player) [subtitle]: lookup for subtitle for video file.
[1 Debug 18:07:55.690] (libbanshee:player) bp_stop: setting state to GST_STATE_NULL

I copied the video off a music cd - it was one of those freebies on the music cd contained on a data partition.

This is the output from mediainfo command:

adam@gondor:~/Videos$ mediainfo angel_lg.mov

I've tried playing it in totem but I just see this:

Since it won't play in totem, it's probably something to do with a common library. Here's all the output that I managed to get from totem, just this line repeated:

(totem:3269): Gtk-WARNING **: Calling Inhibit failed: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files

Here are my gstreamer-related plug-ins:

Hi,

Since the problem also happens with Totem, I'd suggest you file a bug
with GStreamer:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=GStreamer

It's is the common multimedia playback library used by both Banshee and Totem.

Re: Banshee not playing .mov files, probably bug

Hi, took me a while to get around to it, but I filed a bug with gstreamer and to my chagrin, they told me to go file it with Intel. I checked on Intel and found they had their own drivers for Ubuntu, so I installed those.

Now gstreamer is working as is totem but I *still* get the same old failures in Banshee when I try to play *.mov files.

Banshee obviously can't or won't play the .mov file (or any .mov file) and skips straight to playing the next video in the list.

Any help now great appreciated, as before.

Re: Banshee not playing .mov files, probably bug

This is the error I now see on the command line:

(Banshee:4477): Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_scrolled_window_add(): cannot add non scrollable widget use gtk_scrolled_window_add_with_viewport() instead
[Error 17:53:15.585] GStreamer stream error: Failed

Since it will play happily in totem, does this mean there is a simple config issue in Banshee that I need to fix it?
