Audio Hijack Pro with Banshee

pfackelmann
Hello -

Banshee can play streams from an URL but I can't get Audio Hijack Pro to call Banshee to do this (like with other apps like QuickTime, VLC etc.)

Can a kind soul help please?

Thank you in advance.

Peter

If you are just looking to record a stream/webradio, there is a quite
good extension called "Streamrecorder" available from the banshee
community extensions (bce). You can enable it under "Preferences ->
Extension -> Streamrecorder". You then get a record button in the top
bar, and can also on-the-fly re-encode to FLAC, OGG or MP3.

From my googl'ing I found Audio Hijack Pro is a Mac application, and
the recent Mac OS X builds I do include the streamrecorder extension,
so you would just need to enable it. Mp3 encoding is however not
supported in the OS X bundle as for patent issues.

Re: Audio Hijack Pro with Banshee

Timo -

the streamrecorder extension is already enabled but
when Audio Hijack Pro tells Banshee to play say "http://streams.br-online.de/br-klassik_2.m3u" Safari is opened and saves this URL to a file.
Nothing happens in Banshee.
When Audio Hijack Pro calls this file (marked as to be opened by Banshee) nothing happens in Banshee.

Banshee is a media player.
How can I use it like other media players like VLC, Real Player, Clementine, QuickTime etc.?

Regards

Peter

Re: Audio Hijack Pro with Banshee

Timo Dörr
I downloaded the trial of aduio hijack pro to reproduce, and I get the
same behaviour, Safari is used to open the url instead of banshee.
This is due to banshee not registering itself as a default player for
mp3 or m3u files. If you want banshee to be the default player for m3u
files, find a .m3u file from Finder, right-click "Information", under
"Open with" ("Öffnen mit") select "Banshee.app" and then click "Change
for all" (Alle ändern). Now banshee is the default player for m3u
files.

However, this won't help you with this specific .m3u file from
http://streams.br-online.de/br-klassik_2.m3u since banshee currently
does not support opening playlist files (.m3u) that contain links to
radio stations.

If you want to add that radio station in banshee, open up Banshee,
select from the Menu "Media -> Open location" ("Medien -> Ort öffnen")
and enter the url of the m3u (in your case:
http://streams.br-online.de/br-klassik_2.m3u). Of course, this will
not help you with using Banshee with Aduio Hijack Pro.
